Welcome
There’s no need to write an introduction. But I’m going to do it anyway. Why howardjacob.com? Why now?
Connection
We live in a different world today. I honestly believe that. We live in a world that moves fast. That changes quickly and constantly. We live in a world that’s about connectivity. I’m not talking about your wifi or your 4G smartphone. I’m talking about people. In today’s world we are connected more than ever. More than we even realize.
I see it all the time on Facebook (and I joined very, very late). I don’t have 29838 friends. They number less than 200. But I do have friends from all over the globe. And, for the most part, my friends growing up have never met my more current friends. 99% of my friends in the US aren’t connected to my European friends. They are separate branches of a tree. I’m sure it’s similar in some fashion for most people.
But I’m amazed at how a Facebook trend can be so global. I’ll see a friend from Barcelona posting something one day and within a week see a friend from North Carolina posting the same thing. And then another friend in Michigan.
We are all connected.
I wanted to be connected. I decided I wanted to be a part of this new world.
There’s so much going on today. So many changes in the world. So much awesome new technology. So many new great ideas. So much great content to read. I wanted to be a part of it. I wanted to join the world. I wanted to be connected.
My Brand
I’m not going to preach about personal branding or make this a how-to post. But whether we like it or not, thanks to the Internet, we all, to some degree, have a personal brand in this world. And people look us up. I’m not talking about the crazy ex you dumped 10 years ago. Potential employers, potential partners, potential clients; they look you up. I wanted to be ahead of the curve and give them who I was before anyone else.
Share
What’s the button we hit when we’ve found a great article we think others might enjoy? Share. What a fantastic word for it.
We are connected and we share.
Whether it’s an article from Fast Company or my own thoughts on how you need to be looking at your sales numbers (I’ll be talking about that) I decided that I wanted to connect to the world and share thoughts and ideas.
The Time is Now
The time for fearing how my ideas will be judged or received ended; I can’t control that whether I put them out there or not. Reaching out, trying to do more, trying to be more, giving, sharing, helping, connecting, communicating; I want to be a part of that kind of world.
The world doesn’t stop.
So neither should I.
Welcome.
